SPURR

Designed to champion personal style through ethical fashion choices, Spurr allows users to create a wardrobe inventory of their clothing, track the cost per wear of each item, the brand’s ethical policies and procedures and that item’s impact on our environment once discarded. Spurr is also intended to instill knowledge of garment wear and care, encouraging users to slow fast fashion by up-cycling the clothes they already own.

Fast fashion attributes 85% of textiles into landfill each year, enough to fill the Sydney Harbour annually and is responsible for 10% of all of humanities carbon emissions, more than all international flights and maritime shipping combined. These are shocking statistics and although designers have played a large part in allowing fast fashion to operate and exist, it’s also our job as designers to implement solutions and workable outcomes which slow the course of industries such as this which are negatively impacting our world at unfathomable rates.

Therefore, Spurr’s intention is to make users re-think their choices and attitudes towards fashion. In doing so, Spurr allows users to create a wardrobe inventory of their clothing, track how old their clothes are, when they were purchased (new or second-hand), how often items are worn, the cost per wear of each item, the brand’s ethical rating and that item’s impact on our environment once discarded. Spurr utilizes AR and AI technology to predict and suggest outfits for users based on their wardrobe items, so that users can save and access outfits again and again, to eliminate feeling lost or stuck about what to wear.

Overall, Spurr intends to encourage users to make more conscious, ethical fashion choices, up-cycle the clothes they already own, buy less and ultimately slow the course of consumerism which attributes to fast fashion.
